Organized by the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department (HKACED) under the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), the “Empowering Dreams, Building Legacy” Roving Carnival was successfully held at New Town Plaza, Sha Tin from 28 August to 6 September, and at apm, Kwun Tong from 11 to 13 September. The two-stop event attracted a total of more than 115 000 participants. The lively atmosphere on site fully demonstrated the public’s strong support for Hong Kong athletes.

Marking the 75th anniversary of SF&OC, the Carnival featured a variety of sports experiences themed around “75”, while also showcasing HKACED’s longstanding efforts to support athletes – including helping them plan diverse pathways, so they can pursue their sporting dreams with peace of mind. With the 20th Asian Games approaching, a dedicated themed zone was set up to display the newly designed uniforms of the Hong Kong, China Delegation, alongside interactive installations featuring athletes’ inspirational quotes, encouraging the public to support Team Hong Kong, China and cheer on the athletes. Team Hong Kong, China Mascot Rock made a surprise appearance during the event, interacting with the public and posing for photos.

Hong Kong Star Athletes Share Their Journeys

During the event, 24 Hong Kong athletes and HKACED Sports Ambassadors attended in person to interact closely with the public. They shared their sporting journeys and spoke about how, with HKACED’s support, they have been able to plan their education, career, and personal development.

Attending athletes included: LEUNG Kwan Yi (Athletics), WONG Cheuk Ning (Athletics), LEE Chun Hei (Badminton), LAM Man Chun (Basketball), WONG Ka Yan (Sport Climbing), Phoebe TUNG (Cycling), LEUNG Wai Nga (Football), SO Hoi Lam (Football), NG Yan Yin (Gymnastics), TSE Wing Fai (Handball), CHOI Wan Yu (Karate), YIP Yick Hong (Karate), LI Kong Wai (Karate), Kim SZE (Kendo), SO Wing Yee (Rope Skipping), Hazel NG (Rope Skipping), CHEUNG Hoi Lam (Rowing), LEE Ho Ching (Table Tennis), KO Chung Hon (Taekwondo), ZHANG Ling (Tennis), Juanita MOK (Wushu), YUEN Ka Ying (Wushu), KWAN Ning Wai (Wushu), and LEUNG Cheuk Hei (Wushu).

TSE Wing Fai (Handball), who will be competing at the Asian Games, said, “I am actively preparing with my teammates, aiming to surpass our quarter-final result from the last Games.” He expressed gratitude to HKACED’s Sports Legacy Scheme and Ambassador Programme for giving him the opportunity to pass on and promote the resilient, never-give-up spirit of athletes.

Another Asian Games representative, Juanita MOK (Wushu), shared, “This will be my last Asian Games. I hope to give my all and enjoy my final appearance on the Asian Games stage.” Beyond competition preparations, she has taken part in the HKACED life-skills courses to relieve stress and recently completed a sports mediation course as part of her personal development. Looking ahead, she hopes to draw on her experience as an athlete to contribute to mediation work in the sports sector.

In addition to athlete sharing sessions, the Carnival featured a range of exciting sports demonstrations, including kendo, karate, rope skipping, and wushu, showcasing the energy and professionalism of Hong Kong athletes. Many members of the public were invited on stage to interact with the Sports Ambassadors and demonstrate their sporting potential.
